What is the JSON Formatter?

The JSON Formatter is a free online tool that beautifies, validates and minifies JSON in your browser. Paste any JSON to pretty-print it with consistent indentation, spot syntax errors with a clear message, browse nested data in a tree view, or convert it to CSV, XML and YAML without uploading anything.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type your JSON into the input panel.
  2. Pick Format to pretty-print it, or Minify to strip whitespace.
  3. Switch to Tree, CSV, XML or YAML to view or convert the same data.
  4. Copy the result with one click.

Features

  • Instant validation with readable error messages
  • Pretty-print and minify in one place
  • Collapsible tree view for deeply nested objects
  • Convert JSON to CSV, XML and YAML
  • Runs locally: no upload, no sign-up

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON sent to a server?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your JSON never leaves your device, nothing is logged, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

How do I find the error in invalid JSON?

Paste it into the input. The validator parses it as you type and shows the parser's error message, such as an unexpected token or a missing comma, so you can fix it before formatting.

What is the difference between formatting and minifying JSON?

Formatting adds line breaks and indentation so people can read the structure. Minifying removes all unnecessary whitespace to make the payload as small as possible for APIs and storage. Both keep the data identical.

Can I convert JSON to CSV?

Yes. Open the CSV tab to turn an array of objects into comma-separated rows with a header line, ready for Excel or Google Sheets. XML and YAML views are available the same way.
