Frequently asked questions
Is PDF Tools free?
Yes. PDF Tools is completely free, with no account, no sign-up, no watermark added to your files and no daily limit.
Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?
No for every tool that is marked Local. Those tools process files in your browser with JavaScript, so documents stay on your device. Tools that would need an external service are clearly labelled and never send a file without your explicit consent.
Is there a file size limit?
Each PDF can be up to 50 MB. Because processing happens on your device, very large or image-heavy files may take longer on older phones and laptops.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. It works in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on desktop, Android and iOS. Nothing needs to be installed.
Who makes PDF Tools?
