What is the URL Encoder/Decoder?

The URL Encoder converts text into percent-encoded form that is safe to use in URLs and query strings, and decodes encoded URLs back into readable text. It supports both component encoding (encodeURIComponent) and full-URL encoding (encodeURI), so spaces, ampersands and non-Latin characters never break your links.

How to use it

  1. Paste the text or URL.
  2. Choose encode or decode, and component or full URL mode.
  3. Copy the converted result.

Features

  • encodeURIComponent and encodeURI modes
  • Decode %20-style escapes back to readable text
  • Handles Unicode and emoji safely
  • Runs entirely in your browser

Frequently asked questions

Is my URL sent to a server?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your URL never leaves your device, nothing is logged, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

What is the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?

encodeURI keeps characters that structure a URL, such as : / ? & and =, so it suits a whole URL. encodeURIComponent escapes those too, which is what you want for a single query parameter value.

Why does a space become %20?

URLs can only contain a limited set of ASCII characters. Percent-encoding replaces anything else with a % followed by its hex byte value, so a space becomes %20 and é becomes %C3%A9.
