About Extract Text
Extract Text is a free online tool that reads the text layer of a PDF in your browser so you can search it, copy it or download it. Results can include the page and position of each text chunk, which helps when you need to locate where text appears in the document.

Frequently asked questions
Is Extract Text free?
Yes. Extract Text is completely free, with no account, no sign-up, no watermark added to your files and no daily limit.
Are my files uploaded when I use Extract Text?
No. The PDF is opened and processed inside your browser with JavaScript, so the file never leaves your device and is not stored on any server.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned PDFs are images without a text layer, so there is no text to extract. They need OCR first.
Is there a file size limit?
Each PDF can be up to 50 MB. Because processing happens on your device, very large or image-heavy files may take longer on older phones and laptops.
